After reading through a discussion in my online writing group, I’ve decided it’s time for me to write the novel that’s been bouncing around in my head for the last ten years. I don’t want to be the person who says “I thought about writing a book” or “I had a great idea, but never found the time”. The time is now and I’m going to use this blog to keep myself accountable. Here’s the plan:

I’m going to start with a rough outline. I tend to be a “pantser” rather than a “plotter”, but I think for something this big, I’ll need a road map to keep me moving in the right direction. The outline will be completed by May 20th

The next step is figuring out how much to write on a daily basis. When I’m in the zone, I can do about 2,000 words a day, but I don’t want to push myself too hard only to get frustrated and give up. For me, the reasonable goal will be a minimum of 500 words/day. This comes out to 3,500 words a week and in 15 weeks I’ll have written 52,500 words. I’ve already written about 15,000 words of the novel so that should get me to where I have a complete story by September 2nd.

It will be garbage. I’m positive of it. But, it will be complete and then the editing stage can begin.

I’m incredibly excited about this and will share more as I reach some of my goals.

Thank you for being my audience and my accountability partner!
